THE (DISASTER) MARATHON OF 1904 - A New Musical

In August 2023, composer Jacob Ryan Smith approached Tyler about writing the book of a new musical based on the events of the 1904 Olympic Marathon. Shortly after, composer Daniel Mertzlufft joined the team, and the three of them have been hard at work ever since. The musical was selected to be a part of the 2024 New Musicals Lab in Newport News, Virginia, where Tyler, Dan, and Jake got to workshop and present the show for the first time. The show went onto win the 2025 Broadway Shark Tank, presented by Open Jar Studios. The team was also selected to attend The Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Grove at Goodspeed Musicals in February 2026. The show was also selected as a part NEW. NEXT. NOW. development program, and will be a part of the 38th NAMT Festival for New Musicals in October 2026.

GRANT CARVER IS DEAD - A New Musical

After collaborating on The Disaster Marathon of 1904, Tyler got back to work with Jacob Ryan Smith and Daniel Mertzlufft on their second musical. Grant Carver Is Dead is about a group of childhood friends who accidentally bring their late friend Grant Carver back to life for a night. Grant’s return forces them to confront what they’ve avoided: guilt, identity, love, and the fear of moving on. This show had it’s first ever workshop at Long Island University in May 2026, and will be having it’s world premiere back at LIU in Spring 2027.
